"The mission of
the Presbyterian Church of Floyd is to be
witnesses to the Christian faith as proclaimed
in the Bible through weekly worship, Church
School, group Bible study and fellowship meetings,
and in outreach to the community."
The Presbyterian Church of Floyd (PCOF) is
home to an active and multi-generational congregation
family, and through education, worship and
service, seeks to explore and deepen one's
personal relationship to Christ. PCOF is also
an active witness within the Floyd community,
contributing volunteer time in different levels
of service and financial support through the
PCOF Stewardship Committee.
Recent History
In the 1960's, the Montgomery Presbytery (now
Presbytery of the Peaks) recommended that
the Presbyterian witness in the Floyd area
could be better served by a consolidation
of the four congregations: Dillon's Chapel,
Harvestwood, Harris-Cannaday, and Floyd Presbyterian
Church.
After a pilot study done locally, the congregations
merged and a new church - The Presbyterian
Church of Floyd - was organized on February
12, 1967. Dillon's Chapel, Harvestwood, and
Harris-Cannaday closed that same year as part
of the consolidation process.
The site for the new church building was
located a few feet from the original parsonage
and Oxford Academy. Under the leadership of
Reverend Robert Link, plans for the new building
were agreed upon, and construction began in
the summer of 1973. A final service was held
at the old church building on September 1,
1974.
On September 8, 1974, the first service was
held in the new building, the current site
of the Presbyterian Church of Floyd.
